How to write and sell humorous essays
University of Oregon journalism teacher Melissa Hart presents a workshop on how to write and sell humorous essays on Thursday, Feb. 4, at 6:30 p.m. at Tsunami Books. Participants will come away with ideas for their own humorous essays, as well as with a sense of how to craft and submit them to magazines and newspapers.
Hart is the author of the memoir Gringa: A Contradictory Girlhood (Seal, 2009). Her essays have appeared in The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, The Boston Globe, Hemispheres, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Mothering, The Christian Science Monitor, High Country News, Orion, and various other publications. www.melissahart.com.
Mid-Valley Willamette Writers provides refreshments and a social half hour at 6:30 before the presentation, and Hart will raffle off a copy of Gringa. This event is open to the public, and free to members of Willamette Writers and full-time college students. There is a suggested donation of $10 for non-members. Tsunami Books is located at 2586 Willamette Street in Eugene.
