Police: Suspicious devices were a hoax

Press release courtesy Eugene Police Department

At 11:29 a.m., today, Eugene Police received a call regarding what appeared to be several suspicious devices in the area of E. 27th between Alder and Hilyard. Metro Explosives Disposal Unit responded to check the items, and the area of E. 27th between Alder and Hilyard was closed off to allow police to check the items.

MEDU wrapped up the on-scene response just after 4 p.m. and determined the objects were hoax devices, but looked like real explosive devices. They are continuing the investigation into who left the items in the front yard of a private residence. There is no indication the occupant was being targeted. Anyone with information is asked to call 682.8888.

This incident provides an opportunity to remind the public: Suspicious devices or threats, even if they appear to be hoaxes, should be taken seriously because of the potential threat to life and property.

PeaceHealth opens clinic in Market of Choice

By Kim Quintero KVAL News

Eugene residents can now get a medical checkup and pick up a carton of eggs all in the same place.

Call it "one stop shopping."

Tuesday morning, Peace Health opened a clinic inside Market of Choice on West 29th and Willamette in South  Eugene.

Nurse practitioners will give immunizations, screenings, and treatments for minor conditions like sinus infections and bladder infections.

After a ribbon cutting ceremony, Jill Chaplin, Chief of Adult and Family Medicine with PeaceHealth, said sick people grocery shop all the time -- and actually having a clinic inside will improve the store's overall hygiene.
